A day in the life of someone facing water scarcity

Bring, bring, bring. Hi my name is Kriti Kapoor, I am 16 and I live in Chennai.

I wake up early in the morning at 5 o’clock.  It is boiling hot and extremely sunny yet again. Every morning when I wake up, I am hoping to see rain or clouds but it never comes. I am always thinking that rain will come in the morning, but no. Everyone is desperately waiting for the monsoon season here in Chennai. Sometimes no rain comes on monsoon season.  My family and I are desperate and anxious for enough water to last us a week as I have to go and buy a big bottle of water.

Paragraph 1- waking up
I get out of bed and dip my tooth-brush into the big tank of water in the laundry to last  about two days. Then tomorrow I will have to go out and get another lot of water to last the next two days. After brushing my teeth I get a damp cloth and dab my body so I can save my water. Then, as I am cooking, I hear my neighbours shouting at one another.
“HEY THAT’S MY WATER SO DON’T TOUCH IT AND ANYWAY I PAID FOR IT YOU DIDN’T”.
I YIY YIY, I say to myself when is all this fighting and lining up for water going to stop. I obviously hope it ends soon so I can get some peace and quiet.

Paragraph 2-morning routine
Yessssss!!! Finally the water truck has come. Oooh my god,   I almost forgot about my breakfast . I make breakfast for my parents and younger siblings, Adity who is only 1, Mahika who is 3, Akriti who is 9 and Sonakshi who is almost  15. For breakfast I have made dosa, fried potato and some peanut chutney, my favourite. “YUMMY!!!!! Since my mum and dad are at work and I need to get water, my patti ( what we call our mums mum in tamil) will take care of my youngest siblings and will be waiting for me.. Ok, now I am back from collecting water for about a few days.

Paragraph   3- school and lunch

Since we don’t have to necessarily go to university, I don’t go.
I take care of my two siblings who don’t go to school at the moment as they are too little to go. (1 hour later). It is time to make lunch. I have to make a lot to last for dinner too. I am going to make butter chicken, my favourite. YEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!! Ok, now it is time for me to make some delectable butter chicken then eat it. So, after  making and eating it, I start tidying the house and putting my tiny, cute siblings to bed before my mum, dad and annoying, naughty little siblings come home from school.

Afternoon time and before bed routine

All my family is now home. I need to go off and help AKriti and Sonakshi with their homework that is going to extremely exhausting. It is finally dinner, something I have been longing for. After dinner, my family and I  watch TV in the living room. I like family tv time because it is as fun as being in candy land. After family TV time, also known as ftt, It’s time for bed.
GOOD NIGHT!!!!!!!!

Conclusion

Overall my day was pretty good and I enjoyed it. I mean, even though my day was the same as any other week day, it was still fun. BYe and see you next time!!

The Sunflower By Tanisha.A.Prasad

Tanisha - The sunflower

introduction
A sunflower, like all living things, goes through many stages of development. All stages are important and happen within certain time frames when conditions are right.

Paragraph 2-The seeds and the germinating (sprouting) process
The sunflower starts off as a seed. The seed is black with creamy white coloured stripes. The outer layer is called a hull. The texture of the seed is hard and rough. It is in the shape of a teardrop.  After about seven to ten days growing in the soil, the sunflower slowly starts to sprout a root. The root is a peachy colour and is shaped like a wriggly earthworm. Then, within a period of a few days, the root grows bigger and the seed germinates two small, green leaves. At this p of growing the sunflower is very delicate and fragile.

Paragraph 3-the growth /spread of the roots, stem, and leaves.
Next , the sunflower plant grows more roots that make it more stable. The plant itself grows taller, stronger and sturdy.  More leaves begin to grow and branch off from the stem. The more roots the more nutrients and the healthier the plant gets.

Paragraph 4-The development of the flower bud head of the sunflower and it opening-up
At this stage, the top of the sunflower plant looks like it has a  ball with tiny, spiky petals around it. This is called the bud or head.  Over time, the petals of the sunflower start to unfurl and the seeds start to develop even more.

Paragraph 5- The development of the seeds in the middle of the sunflower and its opening and dying process
At this stage of the sunflowers growth process, the seeds in the middle of the sunflower are pretty much fully developed and almost ready to begin the lifecycle of many more sunflowers. You can tell the sunflower is about to die when the seeds in the middle are a dark black colour. Finally, the seeds fall out and the sunflower starts to die. Sadly, this is the end of the beautiful sunflower's short lifespan. As the sunflower dies, the leaves start to wrinkle up like a human getting wrinkles as they grow more elderly. Eventually, the sunflower dies out. 🌻

Paragraph  6-Conclusion 🌻

Overall, the lifecycle of this sunflower's short life comes to an end. As you the sunflower can see, the sunflower goes through various stages of growth.

WALT: Use sentence structures

Intro-
Hi, I’m Belinda, also known as the witch from Hansel and Gretel. Everyone thinks they know the real story BUT THEY DON’T because they haven’t heard my side of the story.  The two naughty children, Hansel and Gretel, had framed me. I mean, I have no idea why, well I do and I will tell you about it at the end, but here is the real story.

Paragraph 2-
I live all alone in my lovely cottage and always mind my own business. My hobbies are baking and making spells for good things, not bad things, I mean I was framed about being bad. To make my house, I combined my two hobbies together and that’s how I created my delectable but amazing masterpiece. The floor and walls are made with wafers and are covered in never melting ice cream, even in the hottest of conditions. The rest of my house is decorated beautifully.

Paragraph 3-
One day, I was sitting on my comfy sofa, waiting for my food to cook when suddenly I started to hear strange noises of kids laughing and eating.

Paragraph 4-
When I went outside, to my surprise, two kids were munching on my precious house. I guess it looked delectable and made them want to eat it, but it is still my house. How would they like it if I started eating their beautiful house?

Paragraph 5-
Since they looked really hungry and poor, I invited them for lunch. They thought my house looked like a candy wonderland. This was good for me in a way because I had been living alone and finally I got to meet new people.  I had made some lovely stew and some salad. The kids quickly gobbled all of it up and didn’t even say thank you for the food. Even though they looked so cute, behaved and polite, they were actually just mean, nasty beasts.

Paragraph 6-
I had bad eyesight, so I asked them politely if they were willing to help me with my chores until I could contact their parents. I couldn’t wait to talk to their parents and tell their parents how bad they are.  They needed to tell their children to change their behavior. To my surprise, they agreed to help. They worked and worked and that started to make me change my mind about them being bad and nasty children. One day, I got them to help me cook and on that very day something I will never forget happened.

Paragraph 7-
I got Gretel to turn on the oven and tell me once she was done. She asked me how to check if the fire was perfect. First, I told her that she had to go onto the second and closest step to the fire and then something I had never imagined happened  . . . .
Cheeky Hansel pushed me into the fire. Luckily I had only one major injury, that was that I broke my leg and I am stuck in a wheel-chair for the rest of my miserable life!!

Hansel and Gretel framed me just to get a little more rich. I can’t believe they put me in jail just because I looked like an ugly witch since I was an old lady and because I had a whole room of gold from when I used to work and earn all of those gold and diamonds. See I was and still am the innocent and not a single person believed me at all. And this is the actual story of Hansel and Gretel!!!
