The Volcano (Pobble 365 Writing)

The Volcano

KABOOM!! The volcano that had been latent for hundreds of years had aroused from its sleep. Scorching lava spews rapidly out of the mountain like a raging fire. The last of the snow that blanketed the mountain started to melt away. Dark ash clouds contaminate and blacken the violet sky, making it hard to see or breathe. The smell of the ash makes people’s eyes water causing their eyesight to blur. It looks like a fierce dragon ready to strike. Then all of a sudden, lightning violently strikes as if the volcano wasn’t enough. It looks like a hand suddenly reaching out to take something. The bold black mountains blend in with the beautiful scenery in the background. The scorching heat of the fire made me feel like I was in a raging hot oven.

Here I was standing in the middle of a volcanic eruption for the first time in my life!! I feel horrified. Who gets to have a once in a lifetime experience whilst being on the verge of death?” I ask myself.

The Race (Description)

The Race (Description)

The participants of the race run, feeling tired and dirty. Some of the children look like they are flying as they jump over the hurdles. Parents are looking out eagerly for their kids. Everyone is cold and wishes to be in a cosy blanket with a soothing cup of hot chocolate. Feet and shoes splash in the messy mud. I can see trees gently swaying in the distance. The spectators are all in warm clothing to stay warm in the cold breeze. What was once spikey green grass is now just a muddy mush. Some people fold their arms to maintain their body heat. I see the athletes jumping over the hurdles and running with all the energy left in their exhausted bodies. They are all eager to win and try their best to and do the best that they can. The clouds cover up the sun that makes the weather all cold and breezy. Muddy puddles are scattered across the vast field. I can faintly hear branches and leaves rustling in the distance. As runners run, they leave behind muddy footprints that slowly disappear in the icky mud. In the distance, are lime-green public toilets. It looks quite old and shaggy. The crowd nervously watches on to see who will win. A boy in blue shorts and a blonde-brown coloured hair takes lead. His fellow competitors are hot on his tail. The runners are all working hard and putting in all their effort.

Personally, if I were one of the runners, I wouldn't have been able to complete the whole race. The runners must have very strong stamina's to run such a long race. They did very well and tried their best.

The Lost Lotto Ticket Narrative

The Lost Lotto Ticket

“Hey Anya, I think your phone is ringing,” said Anya’s cousin, Aarav.

“Thanks,” she replied, then answered the call.

“Hello.”

“Yes, are you, Anya.”

“Yes, what happened.”

“Well sorry to bother you by calling, but you have just won the lottery.”

Anya was very delighted and overwhelmed to hear this news. She told all her family and friends. They were all delighted and headed to the mall. They had come to India for a trip and were currently in Dehli, their final destination. They had planned to go to the bazar then the mall, but they didn’t know that their day was going to be much different than they had anticipated!

Paragraph 1-

They were all looking around for things they could use or wanted. It was enjoyable.

Anya was at a store selling bangles. There were many different colours ad varieties of them. She was utterly bewildered about which ones she wanted because she liked them all. If she could, she would buy them all. Finally, she made up her mind. Her family and friends had planned to meet up together so that they could head to the mall together.

Paragraph 2-

The group reunited and then showed each other what they had each got. When it came to Anya’s turn, she placed her bag and lotto ticket close to her on the ground. But by the time she had ended showing them her things, her belongings were gone. She examined her surroundings and spotted to street children, each carrying one of her belongings, running away.  Everyone was shocked to know that Anya’s things were gone. They all started looking around for the children with the objects they had stolen.

Paragraph 3-

After a good hour of searching, Anya’s cousin, Aarav finally spotted her purse lying on one of the various footpaths of Dehli. Everyone was so happy, but Anya. She had found her bag but not her ticket. By the end of the day, everyone was tired and ready to go back to bed. The next morning, everyone was scurrying around their hotel rooms, packing to go home. Anya was busy in her hotel sweet, sorting out her things. She was still sad about not finding her lotto ticket. But while she was organising her purse, she felt something weird in her purse. She took it out and was thrilled to see what it was. It was . . . her lost lotto ticket she had searched everywhere for! Her sister, Manya, walked past her with a puzzled expression. “Ummm, are you ok Anya?” she asked. “Ya, I just won 50 million dollars!” she replied agitatedly

Paragraph 4-

Turns out that the boys had placed the ticket back inside the bag this whole time. Anya had learned a few lessons from this. Firstly, don’t just abandon your belongings on the ground beside you for a while and secondly, don’t make quick assumptions without investigating.  Life was going to be so great for her back in Auckland New Zealand.

Conclusion-

The next afternoon, everyone was back in Auckland and in the comfort of their own home. Anya was so cheerful and busy considering of ways she could spend 50 million dollars but she also needed to share some with her family and friends. Life was better now.

How do Banks Work? (Explanation)

How Do Banks Work? (Explanation)

Do you know how a bank works and what it is? A bank is a  place that stores your money and keeps the money safe in vaults. I bet you all have a piggy bank, right? Banks are like piggy banks but it is larger and safer. It is also a place where you can lend and borrow money from the bank and others. For Example, people can borrow money from you but they have to give it back to you and the bank. That is called interest. But you only get 2% of the interest and the bank gets 5% of the interest. Have you ever wondered how a bank works and how the whole system in a bank works? Well, I’m going to tell you how.

Paragraph 1-

When you open a bank account, you deposit some money to the bank. This means that you give some of your money to the bank so that they can keep it safe for future purposes or needs. Lots of people put their trust into banks and deposit their money to the bank. In other words, everyone trusts banks to keep their money safe and prevent it from being stolen.

Paragraph 2-

As I mentioned, people can borrow money from you and you can borrow money from others too. But the person that borrows money has to pay it back a year later. For example, I deposit 500 dollars that I get on my birthday into my bank account. I get the 2% interest but I also get an additional 2 dollars each year! Isn’t that great?  Who knew you could get such a big profit from just depositing money into the bank

Paragraph 3-

When you have a bank account, you will have a savings account. After opening it, you can start saving up money and put it into your savings account. For example, you could purchase cheaper items instead of the more expensive ones you may have bought in the past. Or, you could save money by not buying things that aren’t so necessary if you really want to save money.

Paragraph 4- Conclusion

I hope you have learnt something about how banks work and will use this knowledge in the future. Banks are in pretty much every place in the world and you can store your money in them when you need to. With the help of a bank near you, you can store your money and keep it safe. And don’t worry, it won’t get stolen.

The Day I Swapped my Brother!

“STOP TOUCHING MY HAIR YOU EGG,”
I screamed angrily. This is something that happens every day at my house. Sorry for all the commotion. Oh, I almost forgot to introduce myself. My name is Ella and I am the eldest of triplets. As you already know, I have two other siblings, Emma the middle one and who can forget my annoying little brother, Ethan. So, as I was saying this is an everyday problem at my house. Me and Emma never fight, well nearly never,  but me and Ethan well we just can’t stop. It’s not my fault, I mean he’s the one who’s always pestering me. I’ve lost my voice twice because of shouting at him so much!

Today is a weekend so we’re all at home. Oh, how much I hate weekends. Emma and I are sitting down and drawing whilst Ethan torments us! “Psst, can we talk in private for a sec” my sister whispers. We go into my room and lock the door, just in case Ethan tries to pester us. Then she says excitedly almost screaming, “I had this crazy cool dream and I thought we could turn it into reality”. I look at my sister with my hands on my hips thinking it must be one of her dumb ideas again. “ First of all, what is this crazy idea about?” I say, my hands still on my hips. “Well, you know how Ethan’s always pestering us, right. So I thought we could maybe swap Ethan for something. Something like the dog Izzy has,” she blurted uncontrollably. I was blown off my feet the second she said that. I mean, how could a girl as silly as her think of an idea so great!

To Be Continued. . .

Why We Shouldn't Cut Down Trees (Speech)

Why we Shouldn't Cut Down Trees

Paragraph 1- Introduction
Do you think we should cut down trees? Well, lots of trees are being cut down each day! It is the cause of less oxygen, fewer food sources, and less nature in the world. I personally think we shouldn’t cut down trees. It is also one of the many reasons why animals are forced out of their homes or die as they can not survive in other habitats.

Paragraph 2-(There is less oxygen in the air)
My first reason is that when we cut down trees we are taking away oxygen from the planet. Since trees are considered larger plants, their production of oxygen is much more significant. It is estimated that tropical rainforests produce 40% of the earth's oxygen even though they cover only about 6% of the land. Without trees, humans will not be able to survive as the air will not be suitable for breathing. Trees are like the air purifiers of the world. .They help to keep the oxygen clean and breathable. Plants and trees produce energy for growth using a process we know as photosynthesis. Using light, water and carbon dioxide, a plant produces energy in the form of sugar and releases oxygen into the air. For those of you who don’t know what carbon dioxide is, it is a colourless gas with a density of about 60% higher than that of dry air. Personally, I agree with Thich Nhat Hanh when he said ‘By destroying the animals, the air and the trees, we are destroying ourselves’. I mean do people even know what they’re doing when they cut down trees.  Don’t you want our generation and the generations after to live in a non-polluted, clean and fresh environment?

Paragraph 3-(Takes away animal homes)
Secondly, deforestation takes away animal homes and habitats. When we cut down trees, we take away animal habitats. Therefore, animals that cannot survive in other habitats die and that leads to animal extinction. As a result, most of the animals who live in trees will become extinct and soon there will be half the amount of animals left in the wild than there are now. Forests have the highest biodiversity in the world, which means there are complex food webs present. Destroying trees may mean less food for animals that rely on fruits, nuts and leaves produced by the trees. This means that the forest will be unable to support a large population of a species. Endangered species like orangutans depend on trees for food and shelter. If we keep cutting down the trees that these vulnerable creatures live in, they will go from critically endangered to extinct. Without a doubt, I think people should do something about this to stop it. All people really care about is themselves, not others. Please do something to stop this. Think of all the animals in the world suffering from deforestation.

Paragraph 4-(Fewer food sources and nature)
Another important reason we shouldn’t cut down trees is that it will be the cause of fewer food sources and nature in the world. People mainly cut down trees for everyday uses such as agriculture, paper and space. The main reason is agriculture. I know it helps grow food to help us survive, but what about the environment? Fruits such as apples, pears and nectarines grow on trees. Sometimes, people cut down these trees. Either or on purpose or by accident. In that way people are not only taking beauty away from the environment, they are also cutting down food sources for human consumption. I bet you didn’t even know that about 3.5 million to 7 million trees are cut down each year. Agriculture expansions account for about 30% of the reason why trees are cut down. Seriously, wouldn’t you want the world a better place to live in or a worse environment where no one would be alive?

Paragraph 5- Conclusion
In conclusion, I think we shouldn’t cut down trees. Deforestation is the cause of less oxygen, fewer food sources, and less nature in the world. It is also one of the many reasons why animals are forced out of their homes or die as they can not survive in other habitats. Think about the world, think about others, think about yourself. By cutting down trees, we are putting our lives in great danger. Imagine a world filled with plants, filled with wildlife, and filled with nature? It all depends on you.

It was a normal day like any other in Spain. The water was calm, and everything looked ordinary. But suddenly, the tide started to go backwards. The tide was getting lower than usual, way lower. Everyone gathered to the edge of the Platform in a big bunch. Then came a wave. This wasn’t your ordinary everyday wave, It was a giant monstrous wave. The spectators watched in shock and horror as the wave hurdled towards them like wrecking ball. The wave was so wild that it swept them off their feet before they could do anything.

There were two lucky people who survived this tragic event. They were two friends calling their parents from the red telephone box to pick them up. Luckily, they had no injuries as the telephone box was sturdy enough to not get wrecked. Turns out that the telephone box is pretty strong. Soon after the wave hit, emergency services came to take care of the dead bodies. Out of all of the bodies, ⅓ was under the age of 18, ⅓ over the age of 50, and the rest in between the ages of 18 & 50. It became breaking news all over the world.

Friends or Family? By Tanisha

Friends or Family?

Who do you think is more important in life, friends or family? Well, I think family. Why you may ask? That is because they will always be there for you and never betray you, unlike friends, and always be there when you need them. Family will always be on your team, never the rivals, and will always love you.

First of all, your family will never leave you and will never try to make you look bad. Friends may sometimes try to make you look bad to look better than you if you have done something good. They may also leave you and go make new friends. I mean, you can never trust your friends until they’re your besties, can you?

Second of all, they will always be on your side and love you.  Say for instance you get framed for something you didn’t do. Who do you think would have believed you more, friends or family? How about if you were injured severely and in the hospital, who would come and visit you first?  Even if you break something that was close to your family will forgive you. But what about friends? They’ll probably not be your friend and try to harm or hurt you in some way.

Overall I think that family is more important than friends. Family will always be there for you, never betray you, will always be on your side and always love you. I hope you agree with my opinion. Who do you think is more important, friends or family?
